Brand Identity

Lancashire is home to 1.5 million people and a county known for contrasting landscapes, diverse heritage and plentiful food and drink. Located in the North West, the county has a lot to offer with plenty of hidden gems from the small historic city of Lancaster to Michelin restaurants in the Ribble Valley.

As part of a tourism drive, Marketing Lancashire asked us to create a unique identity for Visit Lancashire to promote the county to domestic and international markets.

The red rose is a symbol that has been synonymous with Lancashire since 1485. Over the years, the rose has become an identity for a number of organisations including councils, chambers of commerce and private sector businesses — all of which have little distinction.

Whilst it was a requirement to retain the rose, we wanted to explore a unique mark that was easy to identify and could be easily redrawn on recall.

A device to interlock four circles forms a simply but distinctive rose. A compass and eye feature in the centre of the overlapping lines, referencing the actions to discover and explore Lancashire.

There’s no doubt that Lancashire is known for its northern-ness, famous for traditional food like Lancashire Hotpot and fish & chips. But the county has much more to offer with Michelin restaurants and rich countryside.

As part of a concept campaign, we created image-led content to promote the world class food, stunning scenery and active events calendar. The campaign aims to make people rethink what they know about Lancashire and rediscover the red rose county.
